  1. Anyone throw some light onto why when i have dma enabled for my dvd drive and i try to start up smartripper it throws up a windows protection fault and I have to reboot?.
If i turn dma off smartripper works but only at the max of 1.3x, which means takes bout an hour to ripp a film. Also cant watch dvds with dma turned on.

I suspect it might be the drive, firmware, software driver, OS, motherboard, motherboard settings, jumpers, a power surge, a brownout, IDE cables, or a computer virus.

Really, it's hard to say. I do know that on Windows 98, it even pops up with a warning sometimes if you try to enable DMA on a device, saying if you have problems with it, turn it off.

I guess there muct be some incompatable drives out there. Microsoft must have had a reason to put that on there... better to notify than to actually fix a problem, I guess
