  1. Hi,

I am capturing some portion of my vcd. The quality of the vcd is good. I am using vitualdub.

    1. I have used the huffyuv codec for video. it gives me the file size of bigger than full vcd file and quality of picture is not like the original but Ok.

    2. I have tried with Divx low-res codec. It give me the file size smaller but the quality of the picture is very bad.

Can Anyone suggest me how can rip the part of my VCD with the same quality or better quality and smaller in size.

    Rgds,
    Murali.
    Thanks,

Don't try to capture from a VCD. Just copy the *.dat file to your hard drive, use VCDGear to convert it back to mpg then use something like TMPGEncs MPEG Tools to cut out the portion you want.

You don't really even need to copy it to your hard drive first, just load the *.dat file from the CD in VCDGear and save the *.mpg to your hard drive but I think it takes about as long either way.

Usually seems to work to just load the *.dat file in TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools and save the output file as mpg also.

  3. Hi,

Actually when i do that (as per my old conversion), if i view it in the normal size it look good. If i view it in full screen, it shows like a granuals all over the screen. This is happening when i use the divx codec.

  4. The quality is limited by the original capture (more or less). You won't be able to re-encode and get massive quality jumps.

    Hi,
Do as suggested above as this will give you a digital copy rather than an anologue capture with loss or quality.

    1) Find VCDGear download it a select the dat to mpeg option this will convert the vcds dat to mpeg

    2) Either use Virtualdub or TMPEnc to open up your mpeg file and selct the point you wish to cut or save and set your mark in and outs.

    3) Save out of these programs using the compression or codec of your choice
