  1. Hi everybody!

My problem is i downloaded some movies that are already in VCD format. I would like to add some subtitles to them, but not only for watching them on my mac, i know i can do that with Cellulo or others apps.
I'd like to save the subtitles in the mpeg file (without converting them, i tried to convert the mpeg1 to a .mov file but the video quality is very poor), this way i could watch my movies on my Dvd player. I did add subtitles with quicktime, but when the file was ready to be saved i couldn't save any change on the mpeg file, except create a riculous small file (24k) when i tried "save as".
Can't we make none changes in a mpeg1 file?
    Does anybody can help me?

Sorry not to be posting an answer to your question. I want to jump on your bandwagon to ask how to add .srt subtitle files to the video files.
Can I just burn them with the .img files, or what?

  3. To the original question: You have two options in "save as" in QT Pro: self-contained or a reference file. The small file is the latter. Just save as self-contained. You will not be able to split, join, or otherwise edit this file, however.

  4. I did that, but Quicktime Pro doesn't want to save as a self-contained file. It started create a file as small as when i save as the reference file (around 24k) and then it create nothing no more. QT Pro keep on trying to save the file but the file doesn't grow up so each time i have to force to quit QT!! Even if i let it "work" for a hour the file doesnt get big!
Did you try yourself to do that with a mpeg1 file?

Hmm did Cellulo actually show the subtitles? I have not had much success with it. Do they have to be in .srt format?

How do you add the subtitles in QT Pro (and have them sync up) ?

I have tried many ways to do this (but with .sub format ). It seems to me the very easiest way is to use VPC and a great program called vdub . The problem with using Mac solutions here is that the movies were probably generated using PC solutions which have no equivalent version son the Mac.

I admit to not being able to use QT for sub-titles, but apart (possibly) from that there doesn't appear to be any solution at all for the Mac in this area.
