It seems to me that when I use a High Quality Motion Search in TMPGEnc, the file size is much higher then when I use Normal. Just yesterday I backed up a 2h 4m movie at 650kbps video, and 96kbps audio with a HQ motion search, and it was well over a gig. When I re-encoded with normal motion search it was 690mb. Whats going on? Is TMPGEnc applying more bits to complex parts? Is there anyway to calculate the file size before hand?
Thanks in advance.

are you talking about "motion search accuracy"???
if you are, then something's not right. i believe that setting a higher quality will NOT increase the bitrate, even though it'll give better quality. motion seearch quality (i believe) searches through the frames and sees if there's anything in common between each frame, so that tmpgenc can save some bitrate. it can then use this saved bitrate to improve quality elsewhere....
