    I am getting a dell 4550 with a 4x dvd+rw/+r withcd-rw.Can anyone tell me what they think about this dvd burner.

    From what I heard it's a NEC ND-1090a, ie a NEC ND-1100a without DVD-R/RW writing capabilities.

    Write speed:
    DVD+R: 4x
    DVD+RW: 2.4x
    CD-R: 16x
    CD-RW: 10x
    Read speed:
    DVD-ROM: 12x
    CD-ROM: 40x
    Access time:
    DVD: 140 ms
    CD: 120 ms
    Cache memory: 2 MB
