new to dvd burning how can i burn 4.3g with win 98se 1 file
or do i need to burn two files?, i have been told win98 will not
capture a file which is this size and i may need to upgrade to
win xp, which i dont want to do.
wondered if anyone could help me, or point me in the right direction

You cannot have a filesize greater than 4 gig on the fat32 file system (which is what win98 uses) You have 2 options.
1 Upgrade to an OS which supposts NTFS filesystem.
2 Use software which allows multisegment capture, such as virtualdub. -

Why does it have to be one file? If your source is a DVD it will rip in 1GB files which can be burned.

What everyone says here is right, I use Windows 98 SE and this is what I do:
Capture in VirtualDUb and set File Segmenting to ON. Files will be saved as AVI in 2 GB increments (or whatever size you pick).
For timed captures you can use VDStart Pro look to the left for tools.
Then when you encode them to DVD, frameserve them or use a professional package. The DVD vob files are saved as 1GB chunks. Everything will fit just fine on your HD.
