  1. I can't believe how crappy all of this software is. Especially DVDit's way over priced crap. I have been doing compiling for almost a year now and trying to burn 1 simple little DVD is like moving mountains.

I compile into AVI, then use TMPGENC to busta my avi into .m2v and .wav then things go bad quickly. Nothing works to compile my perfectly created files into a nice little dvd. Do this... try this... no try that... no this is what I use and it always works. I've been working with computer, video and files since 1975 dudes. I'm not missing anything. It just all sucks.

  2. Well there are a lot of people here who can author and burn good looking DVD's, me being one of them.

Just because you cant get it to work, doesn't mean it can't be done. Perhaps if you explained a particular problem you are having someone could help you. Have you tried Ulead DVD workshop. This is what I use, and I am pleased with the results I get.

  3. Well don't give up just let. Get yourself some low buck DVD-RW discs and keep at it. Soon the light will go on and you will find it really isn't that hard after all. You are where I was a few montha ago. When you stop using the RW discs you will know you have a handle on it.
    Good Luck. ....... harrymj3

The way I normally do DVD authorings is to Produce AVI from Dv camera
Used TMPENC to convert Avi to DVD compliant Mpegs and After it is done then I Demux to M2V only and extracted Wav file out of it. Then I send the wav file to Soft encode to convert to Dolby Digital 2.0
Lastly I imported both m2v and AC3 file into dvdit pe and it works like a champ.

This is almost exactly what I do, except I havd the SE version (which is still $300). Why would a 3.4gb movie not record to a 4.7gb media (DVD-R, Khypermedia)? The error message said that it could not BUILD the file.

  6. What burner do u have, it might be a conflict between the media and your burner. From what I have read in the dvd-r media list, some ppl have got it to work and some have not based on what burn was used. Look through the media list to see what dvd-r media works best with your burn. I had the same problem with my Pioneer A04 until I found the right media. Hope this is some help to u.

    Peace,

Could it be that simple? I have a Pioneer 105/A05 ver. 1.0. I only have the Khypermedia DVD-R's.

From what I found out is you can build up dvd movies up to 4.3Gb on disk
I think 4.3gb is the limit on DVD disk even it is 4.7Gb. I use TDK Disk on Pioneer A03 I know it is old but it does work

Make sure you have at least double the space of the DVD free on your hard drive. You need the space to build the DVD file. If you use two hard drives make sure the drive with the TEMP folder has enough space also.
I ran into the same problem, not enough space free to build the file. Had to clean off my drive until I had around 8 gig free, then it could build the file.

  10. Khypermedia are junk disks, practically generics, they play back with pixalation, freezing, ect, buy real name brand disks

  11. A03 old? Generics playing with pixelation?

    What is going on here?

    I use generics, never pixelation.

4.37 is the largest you can burn onto a DVD-Video disc.

Everything depends on your player and how it acts towards media.

For someone who has been using a computer with video files since 1975 you would think you'd have some patience or know how as to know which DVD authoring program to pick. You can only achive so much with the low-end programs (sometimes working with so little can be helpful).

Sometimes it is that simple, but this is the reason this site, to get help and help others fiqure out there problem, if we didn't care about your dvd burning problem all us would not be here to try to fiqure it out. So just have patients and start from the the beginning, maybe something was missed and it could be as small as the media, who knows until u try.

  13. One thing that has helped me in playing around with this stuff is to burn them to Nero Images and then mount them with their virtual drive program.

PowerDVD seems happy enough to believe they are real DVDs.

  14. Hookup a new Dell8250 with the latest NEC writer..(1100A)..
Salesman confirm it would work with both DVD+/DVD-RW

Pop around by Best buy,got a blank DVD+RW (HP)
Convert some old video, through TMPG.. mpeg2

Ran it through DVD COMPLETE (Cool Menues)
    "Very slow process"

Play on my SONY 600 changer

    No play,on my Sony550

This is my first attempt, gonna try more Media later.

  17. I too am frustrated...been working with computers for 20 years, but just started video. My request was simple (I thought); take my home movies from my Sony DV, edit in the computer, add a little flash, and burn to DVD. Boy was I wrong!! I finally found the camera, editing software (Vegas Video 3), but now that I'm ready to burn...I can't seem to do it. MyDVD that came with the burner wants to transcode my mpeg2 files that I rendered from VV. Then it trys to transcode audio and the computer just sits there! Two hours later (now that's patience for you), nothing was being done. I finally gave up. I'm now looking for an easy to use authoring program, but with so many choices, where do I go next?

  18. I would reccomend Ulead DVD Workshop, see what people have to say about it and other authoring applications here

  19. I have been "playing" with computers for 18 years, and am also extremely frustrated and discouraged. Since the mid-eighties and my first Amiga, I have been seeking the "Holy Grail" of video production on the computer. The premise seems simple enough, but I am still searching. I want to take my Hi-8 videos and add a few simple transitions and convert them to a format that can been easily viewed on the computer and standalone DVD player, and preserved for the future. I want to be able to at least maintain the minimal quality contained in the Hi-8 video.

I definitely subscribe to the "KISS" principle and am using a PCTV pro to capture my analog video to avi format. This generally works quite well - no real complaints. However; finding an excellent capture program is another matter. Some work only with VFW, others with WDM. iuvcr works quite well with the Pinnacle WDM drivers; however, VirtualDub will not work with this driver. VirtualDub will work with the updated BT8xx WDM driver, but iuvcr will not. AVI_io will only work with VFW drivers. The Pinnacle capture software is too limited. I am able to capture avi at 352x480 or even 704x480, uncompressed or huffy, with zero drops.

There are several decent mpeg converters and TMPGenc seems to be one of the best, especially considering the cost. I do not yet own a DVD writer and am limited to burning CDR/CVDRW but my DVD player is able to play 352x480 at 5000 kbs so I am reasonably happy with the results from TMPGenc.

The subject of this thread refers to various software as being junk. I would not characterize these programs as being junk but it is very discouraging when I look at how far behind software is to hardware and I have long since retired from the ranks of a paying beta tester. It is somewhat analagous to purchasing an auto with 1 gear transmission - you can only drive 50 kmh, but hopefully additional gears will be available in the future. Of course there will be additional costs for these "upgrades."

Now I am searching for a reliable and simple authoring program for VCD/SVCD/XSVCD. I also recently produced some VCD's of stills for my family and it took a huge amount of time finding a really good program for this task. I have tried freeware, shareware, commercialware, demoware and otherware and I am still looking. I just did a quick count of the programs I have tried - 18 that come to mind.

Nerovision sounded interesting; I was able to get it to work. However, it wants to re-encode everything, the quality deteriorated and I couldn't find a way to keep the format to 352x480. DVD Workshop looks promising, but ULead's capture drivers do not work properly with my setup and when simply using the editor and my previous captures, it has crashed on me every timne I have tried to use it. I am now going to go back and attempt Easy VCD. again. It is not as easy as I would prefer, but it does get many favorable comments.
"This is only my opinion... I could be wrong?
