  1. In reading many posts and finally getting VirtualVCR working with my AverTV Stereo I have now had some time to actually PLAY with the capture to VCD world but still new at it. I have some basic questions:

With VirtualVCR and the modified BTXXX drivers from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/

I can now capture at both 704X480 and 720X480 (both with around 2% dropped frames but that seems OK as far as my eye can see).

Question: Since the VCD is 352x240 why does every post I seem to read state that the capture setting should be 720x480 rather than a direct multiple of the VCD format which is 704X480? I am sure there is a reason.

Question:I was wondering if there is a liink or a post here I missed with my search that gives a basic description as to what the filters do in TMPGEnc and when or why each makes sence to use.

Question: Of particular interest is the Deinterlace filter. Since capturing at 480 and the VCD is 280 I am going from interlaced to non interlased but do i need to use the Deinterlace filter?

    Thanks ALL

  2. ans 1 : 704 and 740 are the horizontal resolution, they have tore-sample for VCD, the pretty big drop in resolution thus quality make it a non-issue.

ans 2 : If you cature from video, they are typically dull. You want to up the contrast and color to make it better.

ans 3 : Don't have to, the encoder just throw away every other lines.

  3. I see so the 480 really does not improve anything for the vertical resolution but does capturing at 704 vs 352 improve the horizontal quality when encoded to VCD?

    When you say

If you cature from video, they are typically dull. You want to up the contrast and color to make it better.
Do you mean use the "simple color correction" and the "Sharpen Edges" filters in TMPGEnc or do you mean when I capture in Virtual VCR I think I can adjust and preview there.

    Thanks again

  4. On my equipment, I captured at native 352.

    Yes, those are the filters.
