  1. can anyone help me with an occasional problem i get with my vcd's when i play them back on my stand alone dvd player? the problem is that i get blocks of colour that appear on the screen, a little at first then gradually getting worse. there is a popping and squealing that accompanies this. these symptoms appear some way into the movie and not on every encode that i do. i've tried different media and the problem still persists. when i playback the same discs through mediaplayer i get the message "invalid function" at the same point as the block noise on my stand alone player, which suggests its not my stand alone (toshiba sd210e). ive also tried cleaning my discs. this is a verrry annoying problem and i would greatly appreciate any advice on where i may be going wrong.

  2. Either Bad encodes (Bad Mpg file) or the media is just plain bad. IF it won't play on your PC then it definately won't play on a DVD player.

I'm having the exact same problem, but it's not just my SD210E, my mother-in-law has an Apex 1100WB and does the same. It appears to be my DVD writer that is causing the problem: a friend has a 2.4x writer and his play ok in my Tosh, my 1x Vivastar starts playing up around 55mins into film, and also at approx 1hr:25mins or thereabouts.

The only difference is that mine DO play ok in my PC.

I am using DVD2SVCD, SpruceUp & Prassi PrimoDVD and various DVD media.

    Anyone got any ideas?
