  1. Is it safe to use a permanent marker (Sharpie) to label my Cd's?

I see they sell so called "cd-safe" markers, but are these really any different?

  4. I used sharpie as well and 2 years later my music and data cdrs still work perfectly.

But I still throw labels over my cdrs now since I switched to TDK brand. They have alabel but its REALLY thin and a couple times it got scrtached through by my cdplayer. I bought those 100pack of white labels for 19.99 at Circuitcity. They are great.

  6. CD safe markers are guaranteed not to do anything nastly like contain solvents that may eat it's way through the lacquer layer on the top of a CD-R...

That being said, if you use good quality media (e.g., Kodak), they have a great upper surface protection so just about any permanent market will do.

The same can probably be said for most brands of media. I have never heard of a case where the ink of a pen actually damaged a disc.

Years and years ago, when CD-R was still new, there was a brand of CD labels that was withdrawn because the adhesive contained a solvent that damaged the disc...

  8. whatever you do, dont use white board markers. cause just like the white board, you can wipe the top off a CD. lol

learnt that one the hard way.
