  1. Hi, am am just looking for someone to help me. I have been doing this for about 2 months and I keep having the same problem with TMPGE errors. I keep trying the forums and all I get are more questions and no answers. I need very basic instructions because I just do not know much of the terminology. My errors are always at the very beginning of the conversion or spliting process (either .avi or .mpg). The error has no instruction or command only between a 4 and 16 digit number. GSpot2 tells me that I have the encoder and audio functions. They all play fine in Realone or DivX. They just do not want to convert or split using TMPGE. This is not for all files, only approximately 50% of them. My priorities are set to 3/3/3/3/0/0/0. The last one I tried was DivX4 that did this. I am tired of throwing all these files away. PLEASE HELP!!

Well its about time you learnt some of it then.

Digital video is not yet mature enough for everything to be done using simple '1 click' processes. If you want to get involved you have to be ready to learn. Start here:

  3. So, by your comments, I am to assume this is not a simple problem. I have been reading some of the literature in the VCDHELP site. Although it is quite confusing to me. But I will look at these to sites. The instructions for TMPGE are not very clear either, I've gotten as far as I have mostly by trial and error, but I just cannot get past this hurdle. Please check in on me once in a while, I am sure I will have more questions after reading these two sites.

    Thanks

  4. Possible causes of your problems are:

Bad frames, scan for and remove bad frames in virtualdub.

Audio type that TmpGenc doesn't like. Use TmpGenc for video only, encode audio seperatley and multiplex the two together.

Info on these methods should be found in the previous links, if not search the forum or look to other guides on this site.

  5. Well I have checked for bad frames, but I do not believe that is the problem. Perhaps as you said maybe the format is not right for TMPGE I also have VOB, but I am not very familiar with it. Thanks for the clues. I will read up.
