Hi guys!![]()
I may be missing something really obvious here, but I can't seem to find this info anywhere![]()
Is it possible to remove some VOB files from a DVD copy and still have a correctly formatted VIDEO_TS folder that will burn correctly?![]()
For example, how do I delete the 'extras' VOBs and still keep the menu system fully intact?
Any help would be much appeciated ........
Cheers!

Hi Sue,
Thanks for all your help with the Premiere stuff.
I use IFoedit for removing extras (without seeing other posts of yours I don't know how familiar you are with Ifoedit so I apologise if I am saying what you already know !). I use this for every DVD copy, even those that will fit without stripping anything as it can make it region free and remove playback restrictions, etc. I usually use this inconjunction with Maestro and IFOupdate if I need to re-encode with CCE to make it fit.
The best guides for this are on Doom9.org. -
Thanks for the info m8 .........
I also use IFOEdit to do just about all my DVD rips, but that only deals with a single IFO (and associated BUP,VOB files).
What if I want to actually delete whole VOBs and their BUPs/IFOs from the disk without screwing up the disk structure?
Do I need to edit VIDEO_TS.IFO/.BUP/.VOB??
Any help would be great ...... thanks!

Most times ( I'd say at least 8 out of 10 times) I get away with just removing them, I find problems only occur when when something from one of the remaining vobs looks for a cell from one of the deleted vobs, usually something like a production company logo or a Dobly digital logo. Or when the main movie is not VTS_01 but something like VTS_03 with vobs in between that Video_TS looks for. When these occur I take the easy, but longer route, of just keeping those problem vobs and re-encode the main movie to make it fit. Since I obtained Maestro and re-encode with CCE I haven't been so worried about about doing teh re-encode option. When I used to use ReMPEG I would try to avoid encoding at all costs !!
When I do delete vobs and I select a menu item for something deleted, sometimes the resulting DVD does need to be ejected and restarted, but otherwise they play fine.
Might be worth emailing Derrow to see if there is anything IFOedit can do? -
Cheers m8
That's just the sort of answer I was looking for - nice to know I'm not going nuts anyhow!!
Good advice on the Derrow thing ..... will drop him a line or two.

Hi, if you only keep the main title (.VOB's), and that you also use a ripper that does stream processing to say, remove the streams you don't want (Myself, I'd keep english AC3 or DTS) unless you do speak all them languages, and that you also have a use for 3 different audio streams in english (DTS, AC3 5.1 and 2.0 ...) I haven't come across much DVD's that would be too big to fit then. You keep the original quality ans save yourself the pain and time of reencoding the .VOB's. If the movies are short, maybe one could manage to fit two movies per disc eventually (might have to slightly lower bitrate for that). Good luck
