Hello,
I archived a DVD film into VOB format. I usually watch my archived movies with VLC by opening the first .IFO file with VLC. On the film in question here the subtitles are grey in color and the font is so thick that they blur making them very difficult to read. This is not the case with the subtitles when I watch the film from the DVD with VLC.
I have sought to no avail to change the subtitle font from within VLC (Preferences, Subtitles and OSD). I can only assume is for creating you own subs or something.
By the way, I use DVDdecrypter to archive films to an fat32 external disk w/ my ancient PC, and I watch them on my Mac with VLC. I’ve done this successfully many times (but not recently). The one thing that was a bit different this time is that what usually takes 8-10 hours with DVDdecrypter took about 15-20 minutes. DVD dycrypter also said: "Media region code is mismatched to logical unit region. Logical Region Code: 2 Media Region Code: 1. The slower "Brute Force" Crcking methods will be used instead of I/O exchange. Visit http://www.rpc1.org for Region Free (RPC Phase 1) Firmware. DVD is Region 1 - RCE Protection: No;; Copyright Protection System Type: CSS/CPPM. Yes, I set the Matshita CRDW/DVD UJDA740 to region 2. Will make it region free if I can find out how.
Can I change the font of the subtitles w/ VLC? Any other ideas? Thank you for any help. PS I have VobSub on the old PC, but I've never used it and have no clue how. EDIT I also have AutoGK and General Parser.

do the subs look bad in other players? (like wmp)

Hi Octeuron,
Yes, yesterday I discovered that the subs look fine on windows media player on my PC. I also have wmp for Mac to but it can't seem to play VOBs from the Harddisk. ("Cannot playback the file. The file format is invalid.") Same for Macs DVD Player.
Today I discovered that the subs look fine w/ VLC on my Mac if I start the movie by choosing a scene in "Scenes" rather that "Play Movie" in the film's startup menu.
I've not had this problem before with Hardisk VOBS and VLC on my Mac. Weird.
