Any suggestions for a newbie on how to rip and encode the audio track from a DVD to a conventional CD that I can play in my car CD-player?

    Regards - John.

  2. hm.. what about ripping the DVD with TMPEnc to an MPEG2 file and then with the MPEG tools demultiplex it to an audio *.WAV file ? This file could then be burned with NERO to a CD (eventually convert the frequency with a an audio program (Wav editor, etc) to 44 KHZ (CD standard).

Keep in mind that the DVD audio with Dolby Digital is 24 bit 96 KHZ and the CD 44 KHZ 16 bits. So in any case some lost of quality is expected.

An other option would be to extract the DVD to an AVI and with a Film Editor (Premiere) export the WAV file.

    Other ideas ?

When i rip DVDA for my mp3 group pms i usually rip the .vobs with smartripper (use what you want) than load the .vob(s) into DVD2AVI than go to "Preview" and see what format the audio is in PCM or DD if its DD go to audio-dolby digital-decode (this will save the DD audio into a .wav audio file) and than just click file-save project and save it and thats it. might take awhile depending on cpu and legth of dvd but it should work alright and you can also load the .wav into a audio program and edit the sound to get better Q by tweeking the audio (cause i know when i rip DVDA the volume is sometimes low) but other than that this should be all if you need a guide with like pictures and shit e-mail me and i can put one together

PS: if ya wanna get tech you can always go down to 48-> 44.1Khz button under the Audio tab.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies, guys. Sorry about the delay in getting back but a PC rebuild got in the way. At least it should cope better now!

Any thoughts on how to author? the CD, i.e. split the DVD tracks into separate tracks on the CD. Currently it's a concert DVD with the capability to select by artist or track.

    Regards - John

  5. Regarding authoring, you can edit the .WAV files with any audio editor (i.e. WaveLab lite). I assume there are also a lot of shareware/freeware stuff. Any .WAV file can be burned with Nero to a separate audiotrack.
    have fun!
