  1. I can create a perfect svcd with dvd2svcd. I normally just use simple resize and nothing else and get a speed of 1.55 with my xp1800+.

The Bin files vcdxbuilder creates play fine. I mount them with DAEMON tools as stealth drives and play them in Power-dvd xp4 prior to burning them with nero at 4x.

However after they`ve been burned I`ve noticed my dvd player struggles to play the cdrs. I get juddering and it seems to have pickup problems. My DVDROM in my pc also exhibits the same effect. Its like frames are being dropped because its not reading the disc right.

Strangely my 3 year old 4 speed HP 8100i CDRW can playback the cdr`s perfectly though.

Whats causing this problem? Is it dodgy cdr media? I`m using branded datasafe media 80min 40x cdrs.

  4. I've had this problem with SVCDs and XVCDs with high bit rates. I figured my DVD player just couldn't keep up with the bit stream. I don't use XVCDs anymore, and make sure that my SVCDs are under 2400 bit-rate.

  5. Are we just better off using constant bitrate then? really????

  6. yes and no. CBR is good to have a predictable file size and is by far the fastest of TMPG's options. VBR just makes sure that the bits go where they are needed most. With CCE a one pass VBR with Q100 and the image quality (video settings)set at about 2 or 3 will give you a fairly predictable size if you use something like FitCD to do the math. You can load a d2v file and factor in things like resolution changes from 480x480 to 352x480 and then VBR is even cooler because the black letterbox bars obviously don'ty take too much bitrate to encode and all the pixels stay where the action is. I just finished backing up Panic Room with an edited script from FitCD, it lets you save the avs, and it's the BEST SVCD I've done out of over 100 rips. Bottom line is that VBR will give a higher quality file with the same size unless the CBR is HIGHER than the max VBR. I think 3 pass is a little overkill though unless you are trying for 60+ minutes on 1 CD
entirely TOO much time on my hands
