I use a 'One software does all' called Cyberlink Power Director 5 for my home movies but I am finding the resulting burnt DVD can be very inconsistent. With freezing (On all 6 of my DVD players) and some times some pixel flocking too. I want to get the to root of the problem as I am throwing too many discs away and my wife is compaining about the cursing.

    I have cleaned my lenses.

I turn all automatic updates off on my software.

I make sure the processor has no other job to do.

My produced video works perfectly on my PC.

Question. Could it be my burner thats letting me down? Should i buy a seperate high quality burner and if so which one.

Question. Should I use stand alone software for editing, rendering and burning? If so, which ones as my requirements are ease of use and low in cost.

    Thanks

I am a fan of using different tools for each stage of the job, but that isn't for everybody.

    First things to sort out

    1. What media are you using. The symptoms you describe often arise from using cheap/poor quality media

    2. How do you burn the discs ? One area where I believe you should use a separate program is burning. Write the results to your HDD and burn with Imgburn.

    3. Do you test the discs at all ? Before I play any disc, I run it through a read test using DVD Info Pro. Nero CD/DVD Speed will also do this for free.

That this is happening on all six players would lead me to suspect the media first and foremost.

Thanks for the advice Gunslinger, I think I have been a fool. I asked my wife to buy me some DVD blanks when she went to the store and knowing her she bought the cheapest she could find. I asked her just now and she told me she got them from a market and they were very, very cheap. I should have guessed.

What are the best DVD's to buy?

Your recommendation to burn separately is sound too and thats exactly what I am going to do. Untill now I have been using 'Create disc' in my all in one.

You have been a great help, thanks.

That was an interesting read Guns1nger, thanks. The discs my wife bought were in that guide and were classed as 'Fake'! They are now in the bin and wife is now making me a cake to say sorry!
