  1. I have a semi-stupid question. I've been fighting with trying to get all my movies/tv shows I've captured in VCD format onto a DVD. [Speaking of which, if anyone has a working link to download the DVD-VCD example/test file from this site, I'd appreciate it.] I'm hopefully going to get it to work this time. I was wondering what would be better quality: Re-Encoding an MPEG-1 file into an MPEG-2 file, perhaps raising the resolution, or taking the VCD playing it on my DVD player through the S-Video output [letting it do the interpolation] and recapturing it on my AverTV card at DVD resolution? It seems like a decent option, rather than having software try and raise it. Anybody have any ideas/suggestions?

    thanks a lot.

  2. ummmm... there is a guide for putting VCD on DVD-r. You could put multiple shows on that way. Raising the res won't gain you anything. Check Here and Doom9.org for the guide.

  3. Well, it was kind of a 2-part question. I'm following the guide, again, hopefully with better luck as it's been updated slightly. But I was also wondering about 'DVD' resolution from a lower resolution. I was just thinking how it would look in comparison between resampling vs recapturing. I was just wondering so if I ever wanted to make an actual DVD without any minor/major problems like what could happen with a DVD-VCD.

    thanks though.

Honestly, neither would look any better ( probably worse ) than the original VCD mpg.

Just up the sound to 48 and place on a DVD.

I think you misunderstand the point.

VCD video with 48khz sound IS DVD COMPLIANT.

Right, but when I read the vcdhelp guide it mentions something about "the picture zooms in on a corner of the menu screen when browsing the DVD-VCD menus." I was thinking that if I changed it to an MPEG2 file, maybe even at 720 res, that it would just be easier/more compatible.

However, I think my main problem right now is my two dvd players don't really like my Phillips DVD+RWs. I have a Sony DVP-S300 and a Lasonic Delta-1000. They like my Imation DVD+Rs, but the Sony won't read the Phillips DVD+RW and the Lasonic keeps telling me it's an CD-DA disc. It works fine in PowerDVD though, so perhaps it will be fine once I get a better player, or maybe different discs.

    Thanks for the help tho.
