I wanna create a short 10 minute vcd on a CD to be played on a PC only with the autorun. The VCD will be from an AVI souce taken from a minidv. My question is since this will only be played on a PC should I try to increase the bitrate to increase the quality. Also should I deinterlace. Should I use NERO to create this vcd or should I use VCDEASY.

Yes, you can always increase the bitrate (if you know that the intentioned player can handle it - trial & error), and even better, turn it into a SVCD!
To autostart, you'll have to provide some player s/w on your CD, or prepare the computer beforehand with the ability to recognize a VCD and launch the preinstalled player.
(Always!) Use VCDEasy, as Nero will complain that it isn't a compliant MPEG.

I saw the guide to make a vcd autorun but is there a guide to make a svcd autorun with software installed on the svcd.
Also is there a guide to making an avi autorun on any computer. -
I see the guide to creating an autorun avi. Is there a good codec to use that is recognized by all computers. Also I see in mediastudio the option to create a windows media video .wmv. Would this be a good way to go. Could I autorun this file.

There are basically two good options for pc-only playback.
1. Require a codec to be installed and include it on the cd (Divx would be the best option).
2. Use mpeg1 which requires no additional codecs to be installed on any windows machine (not 100% sure win95 with the original media player works well...).
WMV won't be playable on all computers unless they installed the latest media player. SVCD is mpeg2 which is also not playable without the installation of an mpeg2 decoder.
Bugster: a 10 minute clip of DV material is about 2GB so some sort of recompression needs to be done to fit on a cd. Also, I'm not sure if pre-win2k machines had the DV codec installed by default.
I think mpeg1 is the best option for playing on any computer without requiring additional installations. The resolution and bitrate can be increased, but keep it within tolerances (i.e. don't make a 15000 x 357 sized image...). As fmctm1sw said, deinterlace is a must for computer video unless the codec provides deinterlace on playback (like the MS DV codec does). TMPGenc is the best quality encoder for mpeg1 but there are many programs that will do it.
Do a search here on autorun threads, this was discussed a while ago. www.divx-digest.com has some good autorun programs and info in the software section (use the search). -
