Greetings,

I'm new to the DVDR circuit and don't have a prefect understanding of how the regional coding works. To put it simple, is it possible to ripp a region 2, or other, dvd in a drive that is set to region 1? Strip out the region 2 coding and turn the disk in to a no region disk. Then watch it on a stand alone DVD player.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is can a region 1 player read the vobs on a region 2 disk?
Yes, it is possible to rip a Region 2 Disk in a Region 1 Drive.

However I/O key exchange (fast ripping) will not work and it will need to use "Brute Force" which the slower ripping mode.

3. What about ripping a region 0 PAL DVD in a Region 1 NTSC DVD drive?

If I have a PAL DVD and I want to transfer it to NTSC Region 1 DVDR:
How do I do this?
Can it be done?
Will the quality be good?
Thanks

4. Pal or Ntsc wouldn't make a difference. The ripper doesn't know the field format. as long as the drive can read it Region 0 is all regions so thats not a problem, it can be ripped.

5. Ok, it can be ripped but since it is PAL I want to burn it to DVDR in NTSC format. How is this done?
Since it is Pal will it just convert to NTSC?
Or, do I have to re-encode? re-format? Convert? Or what?

Thanks

From what I understand PAL is apart of the mpg2 format in the DVD. Youl will have to rip and reencode to move it to NTSC standard. You might have to adjust the frame rate too. NTSC is based on 29 fps while PAL is 25 fps. Some of the DVD I have are 23 fps for movie but I don't know if PAL format will be the same frame rate.
