    HALLO,

MAYBE I’VE FOUND A METHOD TO REMUX AN ENCODED MOVIE BY TMPGENC TO IFOEDIT WITHOUT AUDIO SYNCH PROBLEM.

    THE SORTWARE YOU NEED ARE:

-IFOEDIT 0.88 (BECAUSE IT USE A DIFFERENT METHOD FOR TMPG TEMPLATE)
    -DVD2AVI (I'VE USED 1.76 VERSION)
-TMPGENC (I'VE USED THE LATEST VERSION)

IN THIS GUIDE I'M DESCRIBING THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP TO GET A PERFECT REMUX, YOU'LL FIND HOW TO USE THE FOLLOW SOFTWARE IN THIS EXCELLENT SITE.

    1) RIP YOUR DVD ON YOUR HARDDISK WITH ANY RIPPING SOFTWARE YOU WANT,

    2) CREATE A DVD2AVI PROJECT WITHOUT SELECT THE VIDEO OPTION "FORCED FILM" OTHERWISE YOUR ENCODED MOVIE WILL BE JERKY (I'VE ENCODED A PAL FILM),

3)START IFOEDIT 0.88 AND CREATE A TMPGTEMPLATE (ONLY "I" PICTURE), IFOEDIT 0.88 USES A DIFFERENT METHODO TO CALCULATE THE GOP STRUCTURE, INFACT YOUR TMPGTEMPLATE WILL CONTAIN ONLY THE POSITION OF "I" PICTURE.
INFACT YOU'LL NOTICE, WHEN YOU'LL IMPORT THE TMPG TEMPLATE IN TMPGENC, THAT IT WON'T FREEZE OR BLOCK. THIS IS A PROBLEM OF THE OTHER VERSION OF IFOEDIT.

4)START TMPGENC AND IMPORT YOUR .D2V PROJECT, IN THE SETTING SELECT GOP PAGE AND IMPORT "TMPG TEMPLATE". START THE ENCODE.

    5) YOUR FINAL MOVIE (.M2V) WILL RESULT SHORTER THAN THE ORIGINAL, BUT DON'T WORRY ABOUT THIS.

    6) REMUX YOUR MOVIE.M2V TO IFOEDIT 0.88 AND YOU'LL GET A PERFECT DVD MOVIE WITH NO AUDIO SYNCH PROBLEM.

EXCUSE ME FOR MY BAD ENGLISH.
    KEEP ME INFORMED.

Did you test your method with interlaced NTSC movies?
I've heard that TMPG works only with progressive PAL video...

  3. Did not work for me.

Choppy video playback and audio out of sync.

I have tried 4movies with IFOedit and tmpgenc
NONE have everworked when I use the the remux.

    NTSC DVD 23.973frames/sec (force film)

I also tried Ifoedit v0.94 same result.

If anyone had luck with a good transcode using these programs:
    (NTSC DVD only)

    1: DVD decrypter
    2: Ifoedit
    3: tmpgenc
    4: powerdvd / nero

Let me know HOW you did it.

  4. Have you used the right version of the software I said?

I think this system might work with ntsc movie.
I didn't use force film because when I use this option the encoded movie are jerky.
Have you used ifoedit0.88 for tmpgtemplate e for remux?

With NTSC you have to use Forcefilm as the movie
is stored on the DVD as 23.97 but are playedback at 29.97
(the dvd player do the telecine)

So maybe ifoedit remux does not work with NTSC film material.

I used the versions of the softwares you listed above.

  7. I was expecting this kind of replies...
Since NOV 2001 I was trying to get TMPGEnc to work with IfoEdit with no results.
When IfoEdit 0.88 was released, I tried (and a lot of people too, including Doom9) all kind of settings but always got the same results: Jerky Video.
Tried with Inverse Telecine, 3:2 pulldown and the results were the same, Force to Film settings too.
Doom9 old post (about March 2002, just after he released their IFOEDIT-TMPGEnc Guide) in their own forum said that TMPGEnc only works with Progressive Pal movies only if GOP pattern is the same along the vob file. Sometimes you can get several VOBIDs in a same VOB file with different GOP pattern.
This situation is very common in NTSC files. The video starts very smooth but after a while begins to loose sync with audio and finally stops.

This problem looks like VBV buffer under/overflow errors that I got when I made SVCD discs 2 years ago.

The problem is the Remuxing Method in IfoEdit. Derrow is still looking for a sucessful remux method. I think he is working hard and he is very close to get it.
I think we have to wait a little bit...

I will try to encode one in 23.97 with NO 3:2 pulldown as
I have a progressive DVD and a HD TV.

If that works at least we know the ifoedits remux problem
is due to interlaced or/and telecine.

  9. DARIO:

    When you said:

    5) YOUR FINAL MOVIE (.M2V) WILL RESULT SHORTER THAN THE ORIGINAL, BUT DON'T WORRY ABOUT THIS.

    Can you give more details?
    1) The final movie will be shorter in time/frames, but it will be played completely or
    2) The final movie will stop before the end (the movie is cut)

I just tested this, and the result is not good (NTSC movie encoded @ 23.97 with NO 3:2 pulldown and no Force to Film mode).
The video the first 45 seconds played smoothly, but then the same history... and had interlacing problems...

You would need to use forcefilm in DVD2AVI.

As that ignores the 3:2 pulldown flag, the same way a progressive
    DVD player ignores it.

So if I encode it progressive all the way with no flags
we will see how it turns out.

I will do Vanilla Sky overnight (10hours) and I report back tomorrow.

  12. for rmtaibo

the final movie is shorter in time.
I'm sorry, but i've tested this methodo with pal movie.
But I thinkthis method might work, i had been got many problem (jerky movie and no audio synch) before iI used this method.
    I hope this help you.
    Pleas keep me informed.

  13. This is what I tried.

    Force film: on

    non-interlaced
encode at 23.976 (no 3:2 pulldown)

remuxed it back with ifoedit 0.94
and it played back pretty OK on the PC.
Sound was in sync, and just small jerky movement once every 2sec.
(playing back on DVD player was more jerky)

    Conclusion:
IFOEDIT still have the bug with NTSC and 3:2 pulldown.
I guess it gets confused that it is stored at 23.9 but are played
    back at 29.9

    UPDATE:
I did the above with v0.88 and it played back Perfectly on powerdvd
But my dvd player seems to have problems with it.
(even if it is a progressive player)
So the problem is all about telecine, I have emailed Derrow about it.
