  1. Hi,

I have an SVCD from a friend here, my DVD player (a Hiteker 1200) won't play it, it's shocking all the time. I used the Bitrate Viewer to check the bitrate, and I saw that the bitrate was above the 2750 (2890 at top). My DVD player won't like that.

Is it possible to lower the bitrate of the SVCD? So I can burn it again with the right SVCD specs (max bitrate 2750) and then view it at my DVD player?

    Thanks for the help.

  2. try this
Start TMPGEnc, Open your MPG file
    Adapt the Bitrate
    Reëncode

  3. I tried that, but if I try to open the AVSEQ01.MPG it says: "File can not open or unsupported"..

    [Edit]
Can't open it in Windows Media Player too
I copied the file directly from the CD-ROM

if it's an svcd, then it's an mpeg2 file--you need the mpeg2 codec
    look in the tools section
just remember though, if you reencode to lower bitrate, you'll lost quality
what are you askin' me for...

  5. You can also use DVD2AVI to encode. Just drag the mpeg file to the dvd2avi window - it will create a d2v file just like it does for DVDs.

DVD2AVI is a frameserver/converter, but it doesn't encode to MPG, or at least the version I have doesn't. You can use it to to get your MPEG back to AVI, which you can re-encode to a standard SVCD though.

El Torro's method is the easiest. If you are getting the 'Unsupported' error in TMPGenc, when trying to open an MPEG-2, try increasing the priority of the DirectShow filter: ( Option | Envronmental Setting ). Change it to 1 or 2.

Fantomlord is also correct. You need an MPEG-2 codec installed to be able to play it, or import it into TMPGenc. An easy test is to see if you can play the MPG in Media Player. If you can, then the codec is already installed. You should be able to browse to the MPEG folder directly on the SVCD while it's in your CD Rom drive.

TMPGenc no longer comes with MPEG-2 support out of the box. Installing PowerDVD, or WinDVD will also isntall the necessary codec on your PC. They will continue to work after the demo version of the software has expired.

If all else fails, use DVD2AVI to convert your MPG to AVI. You should be able to read that into TMPGenc, and use the standard SVCD template to fix the bitrate.

Optionally, use REMPeg, or BBMPeg, to re-encode at a lower bitrate. REMPEG will allow MPEG2 as an input format, but it's settings are not very newbie friendly.
