asf (wmv) is a valid format to tmpgenc so either you do not have the vfp (vfapi plugin) installed or the Option/Environmental settings/vfapi plugin settings are not correct.

Otherwise you need to identify where in tempgenc you are trying to select the file.

The only thing I haven't tried with tmpgenc is the new (asf) wmv9 codec so I can't be sure if tmpgenc accepts that one.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I believe .asf is _not_ a valid format due to Microsoft having a (very well protected) license on the format? .asf support was removed from for example VirtualDub since version "1.3d", which is the version you could use for frameserving to TMPGEnc, this at least would be a definite way to make your encode work if it wasn't totally illegal .)

So, you will not find this VirtualDub version on the VD site at least, good luck hunting it. The VD site, however, should still include explanation on the matter. I cannot vouch for the licensing reasons also prohibiting the file format support from TMPGEnc these days, I do know TMPGEnc didn't support .asf in the past.
