  1. My DVD player (JVC-THS3) is old and can only play MPEG4 files - according to the manual.

What is the best way of converting AVI files to MPEG4 files based on the following info from the DVD players manual?:

    Notes on MPEG4 files:
The system can play back MPEG4 files based on the following conditions:
    File format: ASF
Visual Profile: MPEG4 SP (Single Profile)
    Audio Codec: G.726
    Max Pic Size: 352 x 288 (CIF)
    Max Bit Rate: 384 kbps

Info form the type of files I want to convert:
    File : 699 MB (699 MB), duration: 1:41:06, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 45 %
    Video : 607 MB, 839 Kbps, 23.976 fps, 592*256 (2.21:1), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4
    Audio : 92 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3

    Try Windows Media Encoder.

But you would get better quality by converting to dvd-video with for example convertxtodvd.
