  1. Hello folks; I have spent awhile scanning the forum messages and going through the Howtos here... there sure is a TON of info. I think it is a case of TOO much information because I just can't understand where I need to go with what I have so far.

Basically, I'm extracting video from my Tivo and I want to put it onto either CD or DVD whichever works easier and better.

I have a .m2v of the video( 480x480) and a .m2a of the audio so far. I'm not sure now what programs I need to multiplex the two back together, and then edit out the commercials, and the closed-caption data/left green line....

I'd like to do this all on the Mac, but I do have a Win XP AMD 1800 machine as well.

I know this stuff is probably covered in the docs here, but damned if I can find it... there is a LOT of info here.

Can someone point me the right way?

    thanks!!

MissingMpeg Tools is what you need. Read below.

I am just starting to play around with this myself but I have a ReplayTV vs a TIVO and there is a program called Replayer.jar that takes care of it for ReplayTV.

I am curious, how did you get the Video and Audio from your TIVO to your MAC ? Did you take the HD out of your TIVO ?

To answer your question, you should be able to MUX them together with MissingMpegTools and then you need to create the .XML file and the .IMG files to burn. You can do this with VCDToolsX.

If you are looking to edit and get the commercials out you are going to have to buy DVD Studio Pro. You could do it with iMovie but then you are talking about a ton of work because you need to MUX and convert to .DV.

I think that Adobe Premiere may do the trick also or Final Cut Pro but you are talking about serious $$.

You can download MissingMpegTools and VCDToolsX from my site.

Good luck and keep us posted. I may put a forum category on my site for ReplayTV / TIVO to SVCD. We'll see.

  3. Thanks for the info ... I will look in that direction.

As for getting streams from the Tivo, I use a program called "Tytool" ... it is a client/server program for Windows; you need shell access to a networked Tivo to do it. Just do a Google search for "tytool" and you'll find it right away.

I have access to DVD Studio Pro at work, but if I try to read in my m2v file, it complains that "480 is not a valid width"... I also have access to Final Cut Pro but I never used it before and don't know what file format it wants.

    thanks -
