There are some upcoming HD broadcasts that I want to keep. I can download the Tivo files to my computer. But the only real option that I have in Toast is DVD. How can I convert them to MKV, AVI or whatever? I want to keep the HD resolution.
Has anyone run into this? Any solutions that you can offer?

Okay. I did some research. Handbrake continued to crash on me. So, rather than downloading and then using another piece of software to convert, I found a dashboard widget called Tivo NowPlaying. It works really well, but so far, the files only play with sound in VLC Player. Not a problem as long as I can play them on my FreeAgent Theatre.
My process:
1. Record.
2. Download and convert with Tivo NowPlaying which creates a MPG2.
3. Use MPEG Streamclip to remove the junk at the beginning and end, and edit any commercials.
4. Save-As in MPEG Streamclip to keep same file type. Or convert to another format.
5. Enjoy. -
It's been months since I've been to this site so sorry for the late response to your post. You can use the convert window in Toast to save in many formats in HD resolution and use the editor in Toast Video Player to mark all the segments you want excluded. So don't give up with Toast so quickly.
