  1. I passed video through my cam FROM VCR to cpu to make a mpeg2 for burning a dvd. The field order when converting in tmpg is set for B first. I get choppy play after 45 mins of flawless playing. Is this a field order problem. Should I try A first?

I have seen VirtualDub capture from a bt8x8 clipset switch field order after a while of capturing. I have not had any problems since I switched to AVI_IO.

So yes, it is possible, but I would not no how to fix it. When it happened to me the only recourse was to de-interlace the entire video.

Snowmoon, how do you determine the field order on a captured file?

Try a clip, burn to cd-rw.

I'm lucky enough that the universal driver for bt8x8 seem to always use lower field first ( don't know the TMPGenc equiv ).

Not to outshine Snowmoon, as Snowmoon has always been extremely helpful, but thanks for the link. I always enjoy a good guide. My captures apparently are not field swapped. Tried turning the filter on in virtual dub. Eeechh.., which translates into "Not field swapped".

    Thanks

Now I'm off in an entirely new direction. After reading the guide linked to above (thanks fmctm1sw), I've determined that my source is IVTC. I want to convert this back to the original 23fps. I found an AVSynth plugin to do just that, but when I use it, I end up with an avi that is 47 frames per second, rather than the expected 23. I'm guessing that the script is deinterlacing, giving me 60 fps, and then decimating the material, giving me 47fps.

    Help!

    AVISource("E:\Death Becomes Her\Capture.avi")
    LoadPlugin("D:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\Avisynth\decomb.dll")
    Telecide()
    Decimate(5)

This is trickey stuff, and you made a similar mistake to one I made myself..

Field swap != field dominance( order ).

Field swap is for very broken drivers or for poorly masterd materal ( I've seen many commercials with fields swapped.

Wierd on that decomb problem are you positive you are using the most up-to-date? My filename is decomb391.zip. Actually since you're not saying decimate(cycle=5) I'll bet you are using a very old version.

Is where you can find an updated copy.

Snowmoon, can you mail me a copy? I can't connect to mordor.net. The site seems to be down.

    Hello MCD

Are you making a DV video file since you're going though a digital camcorder?

In the original recording, where the field order changes at 45 min, was there a pause as a commercial break, or was it in the middle of a scene?

Does the rest of the video after 45 minutes maintain the choppiness? If so, then you could split the file and encode the second file "field A" and join the two MPEG files.

  12. This is a vhs movie capture with no break in the action at all. I find it hard to beleive that it switched field order instantaniously. I Thought maybe it was wrong all the way through the whole movie. I am authoring with DVDit pe and also tried moviefactory. Same results with both. I thought maybe the chapter breaks are messing it up so I was considering going without any chapters at all, just a straight play dvd. I have wasted 4 blanks now and my patience is running thin. I am going to try burning with nero next. Maybe that will help. Maybe going with vbr instead of cbr will make it work. Without rw capability, it's getting a little spendy.
