  1. Hey all-

I was just wondering if you guys could analyize my situation and then gimmie some advice on if i should purchase WinTV. Here's my scenario: I want to capture video from a DVD player, and also TV. I want to be able to create VCDs from these files that I capture. I would also like to capture sVCDs, and xVCDs. Does anyone think that the PCI version of WinTV would suit my needs?. Lemmie know what you guys think. Thanks again.

Win TV PCI can only capture at 320x240
    still image capture is higher.

VCD is 352x240 and SVCD is 480x480 and DVD is MUCH higher

I suggest you rip the dvd's and process them that way... I have learned how to do it in the past couple of months and ripped over 20 movies now... 1/2 vcd and 1/2 svcd.. it can be done...
I have learned it all from the web, mainly this site.

WinTV pci is ok i guess for capturing for vcd spec, not for svcd... and you risk dropped frames etc. I have one.. I love it for being a tv card,, and for some capturing, mainly from tuner source not the inputs.

    Just my $0.02

  3. Most WinTV boards are based on the BT878 chipset, which can capture at resolutions up to 720x480 (NTSC) or 768x576 (PAL/SECAM). However, if you do want the best quality, you should get a DVD drive for your computer and rip the videos directly as Mike suggested.
