Hiya - not quite a newbie but his is my first post...
I've just started working with DivX to VCD conversion and when extracting the Mp3 audio to WAV using Vdub the resulting WAV is always around 40 minutes shorter than the AVI.
When encoding to mpeg with TMPGenc using the DivX AVI as the video source and the resulting WAV as the video source sync problems occur in the mpeg at the end, particularly when forwarding or rewinding. Of course that may be obvious since my audio is 40 min shorter than the AVI. The source DivX (23.976 fps) seems to be sync'ed fine.
Why is my audio coming out conistantly around 40 minutes shorter? So far this has happen with all the DivX AVI files I have tried to convert; please help. They are all 23.976 fps. Please advise.
I've fixed all other problems I've ever had by reading everyone else's posts; I really appreciate what you people do here.

Under the audio settings in vdub you need to select full processing mode, not direct stream copy. How big is your resulting wav file, for a 90 min film should be about 900mb.

Also remember to convert to 44.1 KHz.

Done and done. Good on both accounts. Sorry I can't tell you the size of the file right now as I am at work.
I have followed the guides for extracting the Mp3 audio to WAV. It seems quite perplexing.
I'll check my file sizes when I get home. Any other suggestions in the meantime?
Thanks for jumping in to help so quickly. -
I think I've found that Winamp is only reading the WAV file incorrectly. No matter what movie I strip the WAV always show to be almost exactly 40 mins shorter than the vid. When I opened the WAV in media player it showed the correct length.
The WAV is 1.12GB for a movie that is 1:54:15.
Solved maybe?
Now if I could only work out the sync issues...
