I use SageTV to record TV shows onto my HTPC in mpeg-2 format. I use Comskip to generate EDL files from these files. I was wondering if there is some kind of solution that would allow me to encode these files into xvid/divx that would cut the commercials using the EDL files in the process so that I can use them on my Zen Vision:M. Is this possible?

    Thanks!

Why don't you convert to vob. with super than use Tmpgenc to cut commerical out than convert back to divx or xvid. You should not lose anything. There are Guides on the left that are more effective than my process. Go for it...

comclean together with mencoder and you maybe can remove commercials and convert directly to xvid. But I don't know any frontend/gui for it and have not tested it.

Yeah, the mencoder option was what I was thinking. I believe I have figured out the command-line options, with the exception of changing the size of the video. What command-line option do I use when converting to xvid to change the resolution to 320x240?

    Thanks guys!

I appreciate all the responses, but I'm looking for the most automated way possible. I am not an expert; that's why I've asked on here with you experts!

Basically, I want to copy files into a folder, start a batch file or process (or use DirMon2 if possible), and have it remove the commercials, and encode it to xvid at a certain resolution (bitrate/file size is not a main concern).

Could I run mencoder using DirMon2 where it would process each file in a specified directory one at a time? If that works it seems like the easiest solution to set up.

Or can I use a batch file that can read a directory and process all the files (cut commercials, encode xvid) using mencoder solely?

Like I said, I'm no expert and am not very clear on mencoder settings or batch file writing.

    Thanks for any assistance!

PS This is on Win XP.
