  1. Generally what comes with better quality? DVD to SVCD or AVI to SVCD?
I ask because i have lots of avi divx movies that i want to convert to SVCD. Just curious if you guys could inform me as to the quality that usually comes out of avi to svcd conversions? Also if anyone can give me any pointers id really appreciate it. It seems that the svcds i get off the net that are basically image files (bin) come out better than the ones that get converted from avi. Anyways, id appreciate any help offered.

    Thanks in advance,
    mE

The best quality, other factors being equal, will be from DVD. If taken from avi, then there will have been 2 encoding processes. Each encode means a loss of quality however small, although if you have a high quality avi taken from a DVD, then you can still get a pretty good SVCD from it. But out of choice, go from the DVD.

Ah, well downloading AVI's that have been converted from DVD is always the best way, apart from the size being smaller, they are much easier to edit, and fix any download problems.

Downloading SVCD's as mpeg's could lead to a whole range of problems that are more difficult to fix. One of the reasons they make them into a bin file or multiple RAR it to keep the errors that could end up in the video minimum. Sometimes the SVCD you downloaded started off as a DVD to AVI so because its a SVCD does not nessasary mean its better quality.

DVD to AVI is the most popular and those converted to DVD/VCD will always produce excellent results.
