  1. Someone told me not to download Dvdrips? Why? The appear to be smaller files. Can you burn them onto dvds with ease? Or should i go for the larger 4GB files?

Whoever told you that is an idiot. A DVD "rip" is an exact copy of a DVD....not junk quality, heavily compressed crap you download(mostly illegally) online. And once the quality is gone you can NEVER get it back.

It is in reference to being ripped from a dvd.

Ripping is transferring all the information/files off a dvd removing any copy protections in the process when talking about movies on dvd, an exact 1 to 1 copy.

For downloading people or "warez" groups then convert them to Divx or Xvid reducing the file size and quality.

Because it is considered WAREZ/PIRACY & is AGAINST THE LAW and it is also against the rules of this forum to discuss or advocate such behavior.

The rules used to show up above the reply box whenever you made a post but for some reason they are no longer there.
Huh... they sure seem to be hid awful good now ?

We still do not know if you are talking about a simple "rip" of a DVD..........or some heavily compressed Divx, Xvid file. You and your friend are using the WRONG terminology/words.

    Or hech's for that matter.
It is compressed and already lost a good amount of quality you will never get back.

If you have a 7.2gb dvd and you "rip" it to your hard drive, you will have an exact copy of it on your hard drive and it will be 7.2gb's in size.
Same goes for if the original is 4gb's, 6gb's, ect. so you would need a very large flash drive.

And yes it can be burned back to a dvdr, single layer or dual layer depending on the original size.

And once again, technically it is against the law to make copies of dvd you do NOT OWN regardless if it is from a friend or anywhere else, and once again, it is against forum rules to discuss doing so or asking for help how to do it.
