  1. Is there anyone who knows if its possible to take the composite signal from my ATI AIW and then "realtime" convert it to my camera's DV-IN ?

I think canopus's dv-bridge (or something like that) is capable of that. You could also get a firewire card and convert to DV before sending directly to your DV-cam (not realtime, but probably better quality)

  3. I have a firewire card and what I wanted was to take the comp. signal and run it through the computer "live" converting it to DV and send it to the camera - like the Dazzle box can do...is that possible or should I make a AVI file first and then convert it to DV and send it to the DV-camera?

I don't really know if that can be done. Typically capping is done without other programs in the background (to prevent lost frames due to other processes). However, a lot of this is so the hard drive doesn't get backed up. If you had a fast enough CPU and the right program, this might be possible. However, I've never seen the software, and since it's a niche market the dazzle bridge would probably get most people's attention. Has anyone else seen software to do this?

If you go with the non-realtime bridge, you can cap, then encode to DV, then transfer out to the camera. Yes, this would take about 3 times as long but it would mostly be working on its own so you could do other things. That's what I would do unless someone has another solution.

  5. Why do you want to send the video out to the camera in the first place?
The Dazzle DV-bridge and other similar boxes are normally used to transfer video from an external analog source to DV in realtime, which is then sent into the computer via Firewire port for editing.
Some DV cameras have analog inputs that can convert an analog source to DV in realtime and transfer it to the computer Firewire port basically the same way as a DV-bridge. Is this what you are proposing?I don't understand what you are after by encoding your video to DV and then sending it out to your camera DV input port. What is the final output that you want to create?

I am trying something similiar. My problem is I have alot of 8mm tapes (analog) and wish to save them to DV. I have dv camcorder,,, but it is not digital 8, nor does it have a pass thru. I can capture analog video into my computer,, but after editing stage and then saving to DV format, it looks more like film then it does video. So is the hollywood bridge my only solution?

  7. I had the same conversion problem from Hi8 cam and decided to capture directly with the DV codec, using AVI_IO and the MainConcept codec.
The resulting file can be easily edited and then sended to the DV cam.
The only problem is the space needed on the hard disk.
    Hope it helps.

  8. what app. are you using to get it from HD to DV-cam - is there something simple - I have tried DV Copy from PureMotion, but it won't recognize my camera (Canon GL-1(XM1))

  9. Any editor should manage to send it back, if the camcorder is recognized by Windows.
I used Vegas Video 3, "Print To Tape" function or you can try with ScenalyzerLive (demo at www.scenalyzer.com).

I haven't tried sending back out to tape yet, but the option is also available in dvapp and dvio two freeware utilities that only really capture or send DV video from/to the camcorder. Dvapp is free with the directx 8.1 sdk (137mb download for a 30k file.. ick) and the link to dvio is somewhere in these threads. Worth a try if you don't have another utility that works for you. And as riccardom said if you can get video from your dvcam you should be able to send to it.
