  1. All I can say is wow! What a front end gui. Set up the front end based on the instructions make sure you have cinemacraft 2.50 and place the dvd in the drive, and hit the go button! thats it. Sure it takes a while, and yes you have to leave you pc alone. but it does it all. 4 pass vbr with cinemacraft, ac3 decoding, downmixing and lame encoding!. multiplex / cut with bbmpeg (checks for audio synch). Healthy and user friendly guide on the doom site, even works out the best bitrate for you.

Ive made 3 svcds now using this script / proggy and Im considering it as a godsend for dvd backups. It also saves all your default settings. Why ever go back to vcd?

I dont user the imager though, cause I prefer nero for burning / menu creation but thats my preference.

Beta 11 also automatically determines forced film settings for you. I hope everyone has the same success with this that I have. Its great not having wait for one task to finish for another to start. Since Ive never had much luck with frameserve this sets up all the hard work for u.

  2. I just did my first SVCD with this system, and totally agree with you! The quality is absolutely amazing. I will NEVER go back to encoding with TMPGEnc again. The SVCDs from the DVD2SVCD system look like the DVD original, and it's all automatic.

Anyone that's still doing VCDs or SVCDs with TMPGEnc will be kicking themselves when they finally try this system out. Push that "Stop Encoding" button now, and get on over to the doom site for the real deal.

Truely amazing quality......try it, you'll agree with me and orbit7. I'd bet money on it!

Thanks for the heads up now how about some specifics. What type of processors are you guys using? Time to go from Start to Finish on the encode? How many discs are you using on average and the play time on each disc? You will have some fierce rebuttles from some folks here who would rather do an XSVCD to get all of their movie on 2 discs instead of 3. I would just take a stab and say you guys are doing 3 discs per movie? Personally I am currently content with two discs and VCD. I usually change the settings to make all my VCDs have a Widescreen look to them and I know how to do that with TMPGEnc. I am not familiar with CCE because I do not have a fast enough processor for that program. One day I might so for now I can just ask questions and maybe upgrade the process later. thanks.

  4. I was ripping a 4:3 ratio DVD, and it took about 14-15 hours from start to finish on a PIII 733 with 128 ram. I'm going to do an exact timing on today's rip, but it was just an hour or so over what it took to do it in TMPGEnc as a crappy VCD.

I agree with you on the 2 disc thing. The system allows you to set however many discs you want with a 0 mins -120 mins = 2 80 min discs (default setting), You can change the mins to whatever you want, and it does the average, max, min bitrate for you. Or if it's a longer movie then you can set it to do 3 discs or whatever..... it's all up to your settings.

The 4 pass VBR on CCE is SO fast compaired to anything on TMPGEnc, and the quality isn't even compairible.... not even close. You'll be redoing your favorite VCDs with this system.... it's that good.

My only complaint with the system is that it automatically cuts disc one where ever the bitrate setting "tells" it too, so it might be right in the middle of a scene. The author of the program is coming up with solutions according to the forum.

Unheard of quality.... plain and simple interface. If you burn one more VCD before checking this out you'll hate yourself in the morning!

  5. Can you do subtitles (a must for me), and select a clip/part of the movie to encode?

Also is Cinemacraft 2.50 commerial or share/freeware? A web search found 3 programs CCE-pro, SP and lite. But ALL are out of my price range There's a d/load for lite but the url says CBR encoding only, so I assume that for 4pass you guys bought the $4,000 SP verison??? What am I missing...

  6. Subtitles that can be switched on and off can only be done by using the optional I-Author program. Permanent Subtitles are doable without the hard to find I-Author.

    Thanks.

  10. bkoyle - you must have done something wrong, because when I hit go it comes to life.... programs start opening, and the DVD2SVCD log window starts right up telling you what it's doing.

Q: Will using DVD2SVCD cure my Fast Forward and seeking problems in my standalone DVD player?

A: Assuming these functions are properly implemented in your standalone player (not all are done correctly) the final CDR should play fine and all, or most, of the features you were having problems with should work correctly. Both I-Author and VCDImager (both supported in DVD2SVCD) do a good job in following the proper specifications. Many of you using Nero to directly create your SVCDs that have had problems may find your problems have vanished. Example: On DDogg's Apex-703, FForward (2,4,8X), FReverse, slow frame, seeking, repeat AB segment, and time indicator now work perfectly, with no problems, for the first time, thus preventing the aformentioned Apex-703 from being thrown against the wall and dying an untimely death.

  12. As I have the aforementioned APex 703-3 disk changer - lately, if the dvd is on the short side, say under 2 hours and a bitrate calc show me at least 1850 for 3 cds, I have been using the cbr mode in DVD2SVCD. The cce 2.50 encode is then normally under 3 hours on my 850 Athlon Slot A. Very fast indeed and a long way from those 24 hour crunch sessions I used to have to do!

BTW, Doom9 just updated the DVD2SVCD guide and the Q&A is also updated.

  13. Ok, firstly it auto detects the ratio from the ifo file so know need to worry about aspect ratio anymore. secondly, it has a built in bitrate calc, it defaults to upto 2 hours on 2 cds anything over will incur a third, but this is only a default dont forget!.

you need cinemacraft 2.50 and not 2.62 as if has to work with frameserv and yes it needs to be purchased. My eighth success story was the dvd valentine... 16:9 and forced film both which I did not have to worry about it. If DVD2SVCD does not work for u it means you have not read the readme file or the help forum a little patience is all you need to have amazing results.

  14. I LOVE this system! With the 4 pass encoding I truely can't tell the difference between the real DVD and the SVCD! You might say, "big deal", but remember that I'm veiwing these on a 64 inch HDTV (High Definition Digital TV). Even digital cable looks like crap on this TV, but not my SVCDs!

Alright, I said I'd time it for ya. Remember that I'm going overkill with 4 pass VBR (I swear it makes it look like DVD).....

Using a PIII 733, 128 ram it took 18 hours 45 mins to rip "To Die For" (16:9,5.1 audio,108 mins.) which breaks down to the following:
    7 mins for rip
2.5 hours for audio (set on high quality)
3 hours for the VAF file creation (not sure what VAF is)
12.5 hours for 4 pass VBR Video Encoding
35 mins. to Mux, cut, and make CD image

Basically the same time to make a crappy VCD, and I use to have to do everything manually. With this system I set a few settings, push a button and it does EVERYTHING (but actually burn the CD!). This system rocks!

  15. I'm assuming from the name of the program that it's only for DVD rips? Or am I wrong. I would be interested if you can go from avi to SVCD w/this program.

I'd be interested if it could do a VBR MPEG-1 VCD the same way... and mux correctly...

Yes and no (from the Q&A),
Q: The aspect ratio of the encoded video looks wrong. How do I fix that?
A: I use the information from the IFO file to preset the Aspect Ratio, but unfortunately the IFO file is sometimes wrong. You can change to the right Aspect Ratio in the Conversion tab (4:3 or 16:9).

It is highly recommended you verify the Aspect Ratio before beginning the process by reading the specs of the DVD on the jacket or online like Amazon.com. More experienced users can rip a short vob section and open with DVD2AVI, previewing and noting the aspect ration in the stats window.

Q: I read the above but still can't find out the aspect ratio. What should I do?
A: Check the pause checkbox in the dvd2avi tab. When DVD2SVCD is paused, open windows explorer, go to the directory you specified for your output and find the two AVS files there. One will end in 4:3 and the other 16:9. Double click on one and play in media player to see which one looks correct. Then, go to the conversion tab in DVD2SVCD and select the appropriate ratio that you determined to be correct. Then resume the encoding process.

  22. My conversion always stops after the TooLame process. It won't close the "Dos" window. Any suggestions?

I have TooLame 0.2h and run Win ME.

    Thanks

  23. hhmmm.... Not sure about the toolame process - dos window not closing stuffup - as this script uses key entries it would definitely cause the rest of the process to muck up. might be worth mentioning on the dvd2svcd forum as I use win 98. I still have nightmares about winME or 2000.

  25. this takes WAY too long for to use,
I tried to convert a 90min movie on my 1ghz athlon with 128mbram.

After 15hours of uninterupted working i cancelled it. At that point it had encoded both the m2v and the wav. Then it started doing something else, what i have no idea but it took a freakin long time so i cancelled it..

IŽll continue the old fashion way with tmpg... i like that way better..

Something was wrong. That should normally take only an hour or so and what you mentioned has never been reported. Please, if you so desire, install the beta 11 software bundle complete. Then try again.

Did you install the software bundle? If not, please do, and try again. If you did, please post a report in the doom9 dvd2svcd forum so we can figure it out. This has never been reported before.

  29. this is wierd. I used dvd2svcd and it got done. Then I looked at the guide and it says I'm supposed to have a number of cd image files (cif, bin/cue). But in my folder that I had everything saved in, only the audio got encoded.
At the very bottom of the log, here's what it says-

    --------------------------------------------------------
    - Video Encoding
    --------------------------------------------------------
    Variable Settings:
    Frames: 186214
    Anti Noise Filter: 2
    Passes: 4
    Image Quality: 17
    VAF file creation: On
    Video Encoding Mode: Multipass VBR
    Min. bitrate: 300
    Max. bitrate: 2400
    Avg. Bitrate: 2000

    Executing Cinema Craft Encoder.

    What'd I do wrong?
