  1. I am following the steps to rip a dvd from a tutorial found here:

    http://homepage.mac.com/jsouthby/dvdrip.htm

I tried two different methods on ripping Austin Powers (which is under 4.3 g).

    Osex and dvdextractor.

After ripping I then followed the tutorial and did the next step(for under 4.3 g discs) which was to use toast 5.1.4 to burn. On OSEX it burns but the disc is not readable. With the dvdextractor method toast wont burn at all.

I did a lot of research but it only made me more confused

Can someone walk me through it

Thanks for helping a newbie out.

If the movie is 4.3gb or less, use DVDBackup 1.1 to decrypt the contents of the entire disc. DVDBackup throws all of the disc's content into a VIDEO_TS folder under a path you chose. Once DVDBackup is finished, burn the VIDEO_TS folder in Toast as a DVD project. Include an empty AUDIO_TS folder for maximum compatibility.

If the movie is 4.5 - 5.3gb in size, you should be able to rip out just the movie and one or two audio tracks and re-author them in DVD Studio Pro. Use 0Sex to rip by title, and have it rip to elementary streams (not program streams). Once 0Sex is finished, drag the m2v and ac3 files into DVDSP, add a track, drag the m2v and ac3 files onto the track, indicate this track as your startup action (important!), add chapter markers, then build and format the disc.

If the movie is gargantuan in size, consider re-encoding it or buying it. Making 2 DVD-Rs from a single-disc movie is almost a waste of money.

  3. Thanks for your help antnymd

I followed what you said and I still have a slight problem

I ripped the dvd through dvd backup. I opened up toast and I didnt see a dvd or dvd project setting. So I dragged the VIDEO_TS folder to the "data" tab. I also created a empty AUDIO_TS folder and dragged it there as well. The burn process goes to about 75% then an error pops up saying "Sector 12122904 failed"

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

  4. Click and hold on the "Other" tab in the Toast window to select DVD option

  5. A note about importing ripped streams into DVDSP: I found that the m2v stream from OSEx would not import into DVDSP. I found it's best to rip the movie or parts of it as a single VOB then demux the VOB using bbdemux 1.2.2. The streams resulting from bbdemux import into DVDSP just fine. And this was using DVDSP 1.5.1.

  6. I tried to burn the dvd again under the dvd section under "other" and it still goes to about 90% and stops due to "sector 1899456 is unreadable verification failed" error that still pops up.

    What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for all the help guys.

  9. What speed are you burning at? 1x or 2x? If you are burning at 2x, maybe your DVD media can't handle that; try burning at 1x.

Does only the verification fail? Or does the actual burn fail? I've burned DVDs in which the verification failed out, but they worked and played perfectly.
