I having been using the DVDFab Decrypter - DVD Shrink - ImgBurn method to back up my DVDs to single layer DVD-R discs for a long time without any problems. But when I try to make DVD+R DL backups there are always glitches when playing back the movie. Do you have to use another method for dual layer encoding and burning?

Stay with ImgBurn. Use only Verbatim brand discs. If you're already doing that, the problem may be something else -- like burner or playback device.

I also use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. I was wondering if the problem is the way I am encoding the DVD itself. Do you make and .ISO file from the VideoTS folder DVDFab makes (which is how I make single layer backups) or can you just burn the VideoTS folder itself with ImgBurn.

Yes. Remove DVD Shrink from your equation. It is completely unnecessary when dealing with DL burns.

Your playback problem could be several things.
    1) Try burning at lower speeds.
    2) Your DVD player simply may not do well with DL media. It happens. Some DVD players have been known to not play DL media at all.
    3) You are using DVD Shrink and it's messing stuff up like maybe changing the layer break. Don't use it in any part of your DL ripping and burning process.

If you don't have a full version of DVDfab Decrypter then DVD Shrink is useful for d/l discs to replace unwanted warnings etc... with static images. You just have to make sure all audio and subtitles are selected and the compression is set to 100% (no compression) but I don't use it for anything else in the process.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
