I was using DVDfab to rip a DVD and it was having a reading error, after a few tries it quit working. It would no longer even register that a DVD is in the drive at all. If I go to my computer it shows no DVD in the drive, it will still play a CD though without a problem. Can anyone help me. I can't figure out what is going on.

The laser that allows the drive to read DVDs is probably either dying or has stopped working. (DVD drives use one laser to read DVDs, another to read CDs... so the drive can still read CDs even though it won't be able to read DVDs.)

Go into Device Manager (right-click My Computer, select Manage, then open the Device Manager Branch), locate the drive under Optical Drives, and uninstall it. Restart your machine and let windows install the drive again. Then try a DVD.

I read somewhere that w/ dvdfab and something to do with ACCS it can revoke your drive, what does that mean and is it fixable? I also read it could be a virus via dvdfab. know anything about that?

Someone is feeding you some SERIOUS crap....either that or
you are here to try to purposely slam DVDFabDecrypter.
    My guess is the latter.

No its prob the former. I was just using dvdfab to rip my backups and it kept giving me an error something about pathfinder, then my drive quit working. so I was googling anything I could think of and came across several different forums that were talking about similar problems. and those are two separate things different people said. which totally freaked me out. I am thinking its like the first person on here said, we just wore out the laser. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt what those people said, because I don't want my other drive to get messed up. I actually LOVE dvdfab, its the easiest and best quality ripping program I have ever used.

Before you do anything drastic, have you followed guns1inger's advice?
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

I did try guns1inger's advice, unfortunately it didnt make a difference. i think the laser is out. I am just glad its not really a virus or the program or the coding causing problems, that scared me! Thanks for your help guys. I started pricing some new drives to replace it.

Interesting. I came here via Google to see if DVDFab was causing my problems. I have just recently started using it on both my Desktop PC and my laptop. BOTH have started having wonky DVD drive issues.

They will read CDs with no problem, but won't register the DVDs at all. I have uninstalled the controllers and drives on the desktop from Device Manager and let it reinstall (before I knew that it was reading CDs fine) and it did not work.

Finally I uninstalled DVDFab. It still will not read store bought DVDs at all, but read a burned DVD fine. ????

This is driving me nuts. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of the issue. I know good and well my laser is not burned out or anything since it can read some disks, but not all.

I don't know what is going on. My drive still doesn't work for any dvd, so I just purchased a new one. I still don't know what actually happened and if DVD fab was involved or if the laser just wore out. I hope things work out for you!

  12. Hi!

I want to reopen this thread and say that I have similar problems after using DVDFab6. I'm totally new on ripping DVD's so the first time it happened I didn't care to much, sometimes DVD writers just stop working. But when the same thing happened with the second writer I got a little suspicious.

This is what happened both times:
I used DVDFab6 to rip a couple of DVDs (aprox. 5 discs) in a row. After that the DVD reader/writer won't recognize DVD anymore. I can here that it tries to find the disc because it speeds up and down a couple of times before it ejects and tells me to insert a disc.

    I've tried:
    cleaning
    uninstall /reinstall
    upgrade firmware
restore Vista to prior the incident

Once again I want to point out that this happened to TWO seperate DVD Writers - one internal samsung s223f and one external Phillips.

I don't know if DVDFab6 has anything to do with this (i hope not), but it seemed like a good place to start.

    Can anyone please help me?

    Edit:
The external writer is no longer alive I took a screwdriver and looked inside. After i fiddled with it for a while I put it back and tried it once more. It did the same as before, so I decided to take a deeper look inside to see the guts of a DVD Writer. Now i know and now it's completely dead after some hard bending

But I still have problems with my 1 year old Samsung SH-s223F
