Is there an addapter that would let you hook up a cable from cable tv to a dv capture card that has firewire conections? Or Audio Video into a DV firewire plug??
I have a studio card and want to capture,Say TV show for my son and save them to disk..
Do I need a whole new card??? Are there any solutions to this?
Thanks

You need a new piece of hardware that can convert the AV signal to DV.
You could get a Hollywood DV bridge (sometimes it will just disappear from the firewire bus. No idea why. Using a fan to cool it seems to help.)
You could get a Cannopus AVDC unit. Never used one but have read good things.
You could buy a new camcorder or see if your existing one as an AV-DC passthrough feature.
If your camera supports firewire out and analog in but not a passthrough, you could record AV to tape and then capture from the camera.
Lastly you could buy an expensive PCI card that has both DV and AV inputs.
