dvd2svcd - 'failed to rip data'

I open dvd2svcd, click the disc icon.

A dos window quickly pops up (running in install directory D:\Program Files\DVD2SVCD\auth_call.exe)

> but it doesnt disappear completely, as if it has crashed.

It says:
G:\Aspi loaded
Drive authentication for DOS
ASPI for NT/2000/Whistler
Found GetHTL
Drive is not authenticated
Can't authenticate drive

Then I get the following error:

'failed to rip info'

and dvd2svcd remains there repeating the error when ok is clicked.

any ideas?!

i have the latest version of vstrip. i didnt want to have to rip the WHOLE dvd to my hd (which i could do with smartripper) - i wanted to convert a small chapter.

it does this with ALL my dvds.

i found out how to rip the one chapter using smartripper, import the whole ifo and select the particular chapter from that, rather than the whole movie.
