  1. Hi

Still pretty new to this game but recently got a long AVI, split out the WAV using Virtual Dub, Used Tmpegenc to create the DVD compatible MPEG2 file and all I want to do now is the minimum to get it on to a DVD using my new DVR-104. When I'm happy that works fine I will do the menus bit and so on.

Using ULEAD Movie Factory on trial and just wondered why it appears to process the MPEG2 again under the name of video/audio multiplexing before starting to burn. This is taking ages - some of which is down to my PC which needs replacing.

Any ways of short cutting this?

    Thanks

    Hey Dom S,

What is probably happening here is the conversion to VOB. DMF still has to take your Mpg(s) and put them into a DVD compatible format, which of course are VOB(s). It's also creating the .IFO/.BUP files which contain information regarding the audio and video tracks within the newly created VOBs

    Cheers

  3. Thanks. A gap (one of several!) in my knowledge on this subject! It's almost finished creating them now !

  4. Based on the times of your posts, it seems like it took longer than it should have. Make sure its only multiplexing, not reencoding. I have DVD Workshop, so I'm not familiar with the program. DVDWS will tell you if its encoding, which takes a lot longer than multiplexing. It also will tell you when it's multiplexing and tells you when its making the VOB etc. If it says its multiplexing, I guess you're ok

Referring the their "computer details", note that their CPU is a soon-to-be-upgraded 233MHz (though this wouldn't be critical for multiplexing), and more importantly, their hard drives are one 10MB plus one 40MB external, which would slow down multiplexing, perhaps by a great amount, depending on the interface.

    (shameful grammar mistake edited)
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  6. Can't tell if its reencoding yet but will look at it. The 40GB external is on a USB 2.0 so seems reasonably fast but I think I need a new processor.

Burned fine but can't use fast forward on my standalone DVD player - any ideas on that one?
