    ??????I keep getting disc error!
It's funny, because every single compatibility list on the net has this DVD player on it. Even VCDHelp has it listed as working with DVD-R's. I know that the Toshiba is really picky when it comes to the media being used. So far i have used a silver Memorex and a gold ESBuy(cheap) but both don't work at all. They do work on my Magnavox MDV450(man i luv this player) :P

Anyone have this player or a Toshiba at all and have a certain type of DVD-R media they can recommend? Thanks

  2. Hi,

I have a Toshiba SD100 which is not very good with DVD-R disks. However, I found Datasafe media branded generation 3 disks to work and FWS disks. Both can be purchased from SVPcommunications in the UK.

I would say keep to generation 3 media rather than anything else. Also be careful how you are buring your DVD. The only program I have found to work with the Toshiba is VOBInstant and then only after creating an image file with IFOEdit and burning the image file with VOBInstant. Nero does not work!!

VOBInstant is available to download on line or from SVP Communications.

  3. Hi,

A friend of mine owns a Toshiba SD100e (European version) as well. He also has problems reading DVD-Rs. I used Datatrack DVD-Rs so far, a German media that showed to play on most standalones and has good quality (never experienced any stuttering)- but it doesn't play on the Toshiba. Verbatim DVD-RW don't work either. We didn't try other media yet but will try out at least Verbatim DVD-R and Princo DVD-Rs (they are really cheap and bad ones, but I'll get one for free to try out...), and maybe HiSpace/Parrot/Xenion/Samsung(Ritek) media soon. The problem is you don't get all media over here (Datasafe are not available), and ordering them from the USA means a lot of trouble, so we hope to find media that are available here (Switzerland). Does anybody know of any media that should run, if possible including its aDVDInfo? The aDVDInfo of the Datatracks is as follows:

    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 7A 0C 15 .B...@....P..Z..
    77 78 90 00 03 45 75 72 6F 44 69 00 04 67 2D 44 WX...EURODI..G-D
    69 73 63 00 05 CC C0 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 ISC.............

    Thanks, Klaymen

PS: I know it depends on the burning program as well. Actually I used Scenarist to produce the titleset and then RecordNowMax to burn it on DVD. RecordNowMax is the best program I'm aware of that does produce conforming DVD-R - it is known Nero does not keep to the standard. We also tried to burn the DVD-Rs directly out of Scenarist. Both versions work on the other players (Cyberhome AD-L528 and Pioneer 525). So I don't think the problem is in the authoring/burning process. They are all burnt on a Pioneer DVR-104 (firmware 1.30).
