  1. I just tried using TMPEnc to encode a VOB to VCD MPEG 1 by just opening the VOB in TMPGEnc and it worked......

Why would this work on some VOBS but not others (tried others and it came back with audio format unsupported error)

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

  2. I'm quite a newbie at this but I'll tell you what I do.

I use Smartripper or DVDdecrypter and demux to m2v and ac3 files, I then make sure tmpg has directshow as 2 priority and then load in my files and encode to DVD mpeg2. It works a treat.

I have came up against 1 movie (Pulp Fiction) that i can't get to work, but I'm going to post the problem and hopefully someone can help.

  3. hi bhoy,

How do you demux? Do you rip to VOBS first and then demux or do you demux as you rip? Please advise.

    Thanks

I'd recommend looking to the left under DVD RIPPING and to learn the Sefy Classical Method to start with. This should be easy for you.

  5. I Demux while I'm ripping.

Try it and see if it works for U.

But I've no doubt some of the more experienced rippers will know better ways of doing it.

  6. Loading a VOB directly into TMPGEnc is not recommanded for a couple of reasons which I believe you will find logical as well:
    1) VOB files are HUGE in size, and takes ALOT of time to open them up, and because of the size it also takes alot of memory for TMPGEnc to handle it
    2) TMPGEnc can only read ONE file at a time, a movie contains over 4 VOB files usually, so what, you'll encode each VOB file ? waste of time

Using DVD2AVI to frameserve does NOT reduce the quality of the VOB, it will simply send the frames from the VOB's directly to the program, and because it creates such small files (400k more or less) then it does not eat away at your memory or slow down the access to the files.
