  1. Here's the problem: I recently copied some divx video files for a relative, but when he played them on his pc they play back fine, just VERY dark. They play back so dark that it's unwatchable. There's nothing wrong with the AVI's themselves, as they play back perfectly on my system with normal brightness. I think there's something wrong with some of the windoze files, as RealMedia (RM's) files play back fine.

Both pc's are running Windoze 98 SE, btw. I already tried updating to Media Player 7.0, but that didn't help at all. I also tried doing a windoze update, but that didn't help either. I'm kind of stumped and wanted to know if anyone here has any ideas on how to fix this problem.

The pc is a P3-600 w/128 Mb/RAM, so speed/memory is not a problem at all...

    Any suggestions, anyone?

    TIA.

Could be his monitor. How old is it? Might be time for a new one.

  3. I thought about that, but the RM files play back fine so I figured the colors are working correctly. Then again, the monitor is several years old, so it wouldn't hurt to plug in a different monitor to see if that helps.

    Thanks for the tip.

  4. Try the graphic card settings. When i installed mine it screwed up Windows Media Player by changing the brightness and colours and that but then Real Player worked fine
