I have a Panasonic standalone recorder (dmr-e20) and computer internal lf-d321. Both use dvd-r and ram. So far I'm having good luck recording to ram on standalone, bringing into computer, authoring using MovieFactory and DVD-IT PE and burning to dvd-r on internal.
Today, for the first time, I tried ripping a dvd I own (The Whole Nine Yards) to make backup (Curiosity got to me). I used dvd decrypter to make an iso file on the HD. I used same program to burn to dvd-r. All went well. The dvd, though, will not play on my Panansonic dmr-e20 standalone. It reads it for about 30 seconds, the display says "play", but nothing on screen. Plus, the machine locks up. None of the buttons work. Can't stop, eject, or even turn off power. I have to unplug the unit, plug back in, and eject the dvd very quickly. Strangely, the dvd plays perfectly in my 2 year old Sony 360 and one year old Sony 700P. Also, the dvd won't be recognized in my internal dvd reader/burner. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG. BTW, I have a lot of experience with converting dvd-ram to dvd-r, if anyone needs help.

With my experience on the E20..... It's a bit fussy with certain generations and brands of DVDR..... The solution I've found is to stick with Gen3's and no doubt Gen4's should also be fine. - I do the same as yourself.... record on the E20 on Ram discs and keep the good stuff by transfering it onto DVDR with the Pioneer 104 (Toshiba 1612 DVD-Ram Drive also used) - I have had the exact same problem with the earlier generation DVDR's just stopping after around 30sec to 1 minute...... Stick to the Newer Generation DVDR's and all should be ok.

I use only Verbatim, Memorex, and TDK. This particular one was Verbatim. Never had problems before with any of them. Could it be the burning program, DVD Decrypter? I know some people have had problems with Nero. I think I might try this next: Make iso image with Decrypter, but use DVD MovieFactory to burn the iso. Every dvd I've ever authored with MovieFactory has worked flawlessly in all 3 of my dvd players.
