    Hi All,

I recently received a DVD-R from the States (I'm in region 2). I tried to play this DVD-R in my player and it just spun in the drive - nothing.

I then tried converting to Region 1 using the hacks on this page and still got nothing. I know I got the hack right cos I tried a region 2 DVD in after and the machine told me that the DVD was from a differnent region.

    I've reset to region 2 now .

Is my problem caused by the fact that DVD 711 Philips won't play DVD-R's ? Or is there some clever way I can get it play this one ?
    Regards
    Andy

  2. I have the same question, how to do a Philips 711 play DVD-R?
I tried with 2 DVDs made by a friend, one worked perfectly, the other , no chance.

    Please, what is the secret?

  3. I've noticed that when using DVD-R on philips the disc must be full. It's not able to read the unburnt bit at the end so doesn't know what disc it is.

I suggest using discs with around 4gig of data on it. You can create a padded file to fill the disc up before burning.

  4. Hello,
I have the Philips DVD711 and have gotten DVD-Rs to work fine. A few notes: The disc must have 3.8GB or more. Don't use Nero. GearPro DVD6 makes everything great!
    Goos luck!
