sound will not capture most of the time, stumped

using ati 8500 128 mb, hercules game theater xp, ati software or virtualdub

capture uses aux, line in will not reach from the ati card to the external
hercules box

I open the game theater control panel, and set sound to 'aux' from
'mic/line2', sometimes I open up volume control in wxp as well to make sure

record setting randomly sets itself back to 'mic/line2' - it will do it in 30 secs, or a few minutes or a few hours (sound is great while set to 'aux')

in the ati software, record is set to 'aux', through the setup procedure

basically, I cannot capture unless I sit in front of it and make sure it is set to 'aux' (by keeping the game theater xp panel open , sometimes it will hold for a few hours, maybe)

This sounds like a problem particular to your setup and is probably tied to your capture application.

Try a different capture application, there are many ATI users on this board and I'm sure someone can recommend a good alternative to you.
