O.K. I installed a new 120 GB hard drive a couple of days ago as the slave drive (which I know was a mistake and I plan to re- configure the hard drives separately to different channels some time this week).
In the mean time I was testing the capture of some DV footage to the new hard drive through my Vegas Video editing program (which I highly recommend) and the video and sound are all choppy as heck.
I tried capturing back to the old hard drive and that worked fine. Anybody have any suggestions before I start losing it. Is it a hard drive issue or a settings on the capture issue. Any advice sure would be welcome. Thanks

is dma enabled? are you using the new ribbon that came with the drive? did you have software disc or floppy for the drive and use it?

Hey, DR Pimp and Movie Geek, you guys RULE. That was the problem, I didn't have DMA enabled. Capturing fine now. Thanks again!!!!!

i also purchased a 120 gig drive and also set it up as a slave - which i now know was a mistake. i already have around 10 gigs of video on this drive.
if i buy a controller card and set it up on its own channel, will my video still be there when i try to access it? it should be fine, right?
thanks!

yea,the controller card does not effect whats on the hardrive.it just gives you a extra way to add a harddrive.

Excuse me for my ignorance. But, Why is it a mistake to set up a new hard drive as a slave? I want to add a new one to my PC, but I did not know that.

from what i have researched, it's a good idea to set up your fastest drive as a master.
in my situation i have a 20gig 5200 RPM set up as a master and then i have a 100 gig 72000 with 8MB cache as a slave.
so i am assuming that because of this set up i am not getting optimal results because maybe it's only as fast as the slowest drive???
maybe i'm wrong but would appreciate if someone would clarify this for me.
thanks!

my point and question i am trying to make is that i have my slowest drive set up as my master and my fastest drive set up as a slave.
does this set up hinder the performance of my faster drive?
robert -
they say when you have two harddrives of different speeds on one chain it will only run as fast as the slowest one,i have 5400 and 7200 i cant see any difference
-
that's why i'm considering buying a controller card and put my fast drive on it's own channel.

I HAVE CONCIDERED DOING THE SAME THING...I HAVE A OLDER 550 AT COMPUTER BUT IT CAPS EXELLENT AND DONT DROP FRAMES. I USE THE MJPG CODEC. THIS 550 IS ONLY ATA33 MY MAIN DRIVE IS ATA1OO SO IF I DONT UPGRADE MOTHERBOARD TO GET ATA100 I WILL PROBABLY ADD CARD ALSO
