  1. Hi,

Are there many using MainConcept MPEG converter and if so how does it compare with TMPGENC?

  2. DVD complete uses the main concept encoder. It is much faster than TMPGEnc. You can try the trial version of DVD complete at www.dazzle.com. It also burns to VCDs.

  4. Mainconcept gives me better picture (SVCD) quality than TmpgEnc. I don't know how other feels. Any other opinion.

  5. I haven't used it enough to have an opinion at this point. However, somebody else was saying that they had better results with TMPGEnc than the mainconcept encoder included with DVD complete. I'll have to test it.

  6. Hi,

Since posting my original question I have been playing around with MainConcept and am very encouraged with the results with seem to be as good as TMPGEnc. One area it scores heavily over TMPGEnc is the speed of encoding which I am finding is almost real time.

There must be many others out there trying it what do you think?

  7. I have Vegas Video which uses that encoder. I have done several trials with different sources. I have found it varies widely depending on the project. I encoded a VCR capture and the Main Concept was FAR better than TMPG and much faster. But then yesterday I went to use it on a home movie from a digital Camcorder and it was OK but not perfect. I tried TMPG and it was near perfect. That project was done at 2500kbps.

I have found for VCD quality the TMPG is better. At the higher bitrates you have more room for error but when your at 1150kbits any lower quality will show up in your video.
Not only am I perfect but I'm Canadian too!

  8. Thanks for the info. I need to create good quality MPEG 1 files from DVCAM material at 1800 to 2000kbps. TMPGEnc has been doing this reasonably well but it would be helpful to have a quicker encoder as some of the projects I am encoding are around 1 hour long.

Do you think that it is worth persuing MainConcept?
