I don't know if there's a bug or if it's a conflict with Win XP but when I use Smart Ripper to rip a DVD, then I have to quit the program and I can't use it again until I restart the PC. If I try to use Smart Ripper for a second DVD without restarting the PC first, the PC (1.4GHz P4, 768MB RAM) suddenly behaves as if I'm using a 286. Windows itself don't respond anymore (menu bar, quick access icons, tray all dead) and in some cases I can't even get the PC to restart or shut down. The 3 finger salute (CRTL-ALT-DEL) sometimes work, sometime it doesn't. And when it does bring the Task Manager, it reports Smart Ripper as not responding but it won't quit either. Restart or shut down through Task Manager usually don't work.

When it does begin restart or shut down, I get the BSOD with PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES and then I have to wait maybe 4 or 5 minutes for 3-quarter GB of RAM to dump to the HD. Acording to oh-not-so-infalable-resources-at-M$, it means I have a bad driver somewhere that is not cleaning up properly after an I/O call. Yet I'm using standard driver from XP to run the DVD-ROM (Compaq 16x) and there's nothing new for it from Windows Update.

It does get annoying when I have more than 1 DVD to rip. I would have used DVD2SVCD but all of my rip ends up in VCD format so it'd be a waste of time converting from MPEG2 to MPEG1.

    Any idea or suggestion? Thanks.

  2. Have you installed the Adaptec ASPI v4.6 ? without it, no ripper will work good on Windows 2000 or XP, to get a download link, check the Classical Guide v2.0
