  1. I am new to Ulead Video Studio 5, I successfully captured a tv program, but I chose MPEG1 NTSC as the format but how come it gave me a AVI file instead, then I have to choose "FInish" to convert the AVI to MPG again? IS there a way to just record it in MPEG1 format without the conversion? because it takes too long to do so.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I had the same thing happen to me so I called U-lead and I was reminded that the documentation states that if your software came bundled (mine did with my firewire card) then I have a limited version and that capturing in mpeg format was not available to me and that I would have to upgrade to the full version in order to capture in mpeg format so I am limited to AVI.

I read the documentation ( in the program help section) and sure enough it is written in red that mpeg is not available with my version. Of course the package that came with my firewire card does not say that I was getting a limited version. In fact it said in the "what's new" section that capturing in mpeg formats was now available with U-lead. So I told the guy at U-lead this and he said that they can not be responsible for what was written or not written on someone else's package. I told him that if they were going to let someone else distribute their software with their product then yes they are responsible for what is on the packaging. I suggested he pass this along to their marketing dept.

If you have the full version then you should be able to capture in mpeg format. If not then you will have to use another program or be stuck with AVI. I am new at this but I am sure you have read like I have of all the other programs available that will let you capture in mpeg format.

Also make sure that the template you chose was Mpeg. If I remember correctly, it told me right away that I could not capture in mpeg format.
