  1. Hello -

I have some AVI files that I need to convert to MPG so I can watch them on my player.

The trouble is that after I do the convertion, the video and audio are out of sync. Here is how I am doing it:

    1) Open AVI with VirtualDub
    2) Set Audio (wav) to full proccessing mode
    3) Save wav

    4) TMPGEnc VCD/PAL Template
    5) Load Video origanl AVI
    6) Load Audio new WAV

I then just set a few video enhancements (nothing that would effect audio) and let it run. What I am left with is a MPG file that looks good, but the video/audio is off sync and gets worse as the movie goes on. This happens on both my PC and my home DVD player.

    Please help !!!!

When the original video is in VDub, check the length of it. The load your wave file into Gold Wave, and check its length. Unless I miss my guess, your audio is too long. If I am right, select Effects-->Time Warp in Gold Wave. Enter the duration of your VIDEO for the new duration of your audio file. select OK, and save the wave file.

Repeat steps 4-6 in your post, and it should be fixed.

    You missed out something

    Vdub
Video > scan video stream for errors

If there are any junk frames, that can also cause your problem

I know this is simple and you've prolly already checked but in VD select video > framerate. Does it show the "match video and audio framerate" as 25fps / same as current framerate?

If so it's prolly bad video frames.

Well I have checked the length of both and I see this:
    Video: 00:50:07:689
    Audio: 00:50:07:660

So the Audio is in fact shorter than the video. How can that be fixed ?

Your audio file is only out 29/1000 (twenty-nine thousandths) of a second. Unless you have calibrated hearing, it should be imperceptible if it was caused by audio being too long, so I did miss my guess.

KingJohn was right, remember to check for junk frames before going any further. If you have no junk frames, estimate how far out your audio is out of synch, and rather the lips move before you hear the words (video leading audio), or vice versa (audio leading video, of course).

The guide I am giving you the link to may seem to complicated, but remember only a part of it pertains to your problem. Use the part that pertains to your file (either adding silence, or clipping audio). Hang in there, we are all pulling for you!
